Ford Safety Ratings

If you find yourself asking “are Ford Fusions good cars” or “are Ford Escapes good cars,” a good place to start is by looking at safety ratings. Ford vehicles are famous for their safety and their long-lasting durability on the Hazlet roads, thanks to the Ford Co-Pilot 360 driver assistance suite you can find on most new vehicles. We’ve put together a list of safety ratings from the two foremost resources on vehicle safety and reliability: the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The IIHS takes a wide variety of factors into consideration when rating vehicle safety, including crash prevention features, driver assistance technology, and child safety features. The highest honor a vehicle can receive from the IIHS is either a “Top Safety Pick” or a “Top Safety Pick+,” and we’re proud to say that seven 2022 Ford vehicles have been given this honor! The NHTSA rates vehicles for their crashworthiness and gives them a starred rating out of five. Here are the 2021 and 2022 Ford vehicles that were honored by both organizations:

2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ Models

  • Ford Bronco Sport
  • Ford Escape
  • Ford Edge
  • Ford Explorer
  • Ford Mustang Mach-E
  • Ford F-150 Crew Cab
  • Ford F-150 Extended Cab

2021 NHTSA Five-Star Safety Ratings

  • Ford Bronco 4-Door
  • Ford Bronco Sport
  • Ford F-150 SuperCab
  • Ford F-150 SuperCrew
  • Ford F-150 SuperCrew HEV
  • Ford F-250 Crew Cab
  • Ford F-150 Tremor
  • Ford Mustang Mach-E BEV
  • Ford Transit Connect Wagon

Ford Reliability Ratings

Safety is only half the story when considering the quality of Ford vehicles—the next section we’ll look at is reliability. RepairPal, a leading source on vehicle maintenance and reliability, rates vehicles out of five stars based on three factors: annual maintenance, the frequency that it must be brought in for unscheduled repairs, and the probability that the repair will be severe. Six popular Ford vehicles currently enjoy a reliability rating of four stars or higher on RepairPal:

RepairPal Four- and Five-Star Reliability Ratings

  • Ford Ranger
  • Ford Fiesta
  • Ford Escape
  • Ford Taurus
  • Ford Fusion
  • Ford Focus
